Candace Shorter Obituary

Candace Marie Shorter
Virginia Beach - ". . .and thereby have entertained angels unawares." Lovely Candace stepped up in grace on March 23 in Lynchburg, surrounded by her family in the home where she grew up. She was the daughter of Judith (nee Doss) and the late William Shelton Shorter. Lately of Virginia Beach, Candace was the Assistant Coordinator of the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology for 8 years. She had previously taught English in middle schools in Japan for 4 years. She volunteered for the VB SPCA, and routinely adopted old dogs, doting on them as they lived out their days in her loving care. She is survived by her mother and brother, William Shelton Shorter, Jr., his wife, Christina, and her nieces Brittany and Cameron, and nephew Liam. Services and internment were in Lynchburg. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the VB SPCA; Humane Society for Campbell County; or the American Cancer Society. Condolences and memories may continue to be shared with her family at www.heritagefuneralandcremation.com throughout April.

I am truly saddened by the loss of this wonderful person. I just learned of her passing today and I feel as if the world is a lesser place than it was an hour ago

My heart is saddened to hear of Candace's death. I used to work in the same building, and I always looked forward to her coming down to check her mail. We would discuss bus routes and flowers and things that made us smile...which was always easy to do with Candace. May her smile and gentle laugh be a memory that always brings comfort. I'm glad she was surrounded by those who loved her most!

Judy,
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Candace. I remember her, when we all attended Heritage United Methodist, as a beautiful, witty, and intelligent young girl. I know your heart is heavy, but hope it will soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Judy, So sorry for the pain you're feeling in this tremendous loss of your dear Candice. Although short, her life was fulfilled with the things she had passions for. Your "old"friend

Judy, Bill and family. It goes without saying that I'm deeply saddened. There isn't enough room here to express my thoughts. Candace was such a bright light. She was always more concerned for others than herself. She was beautiful inside and out and was the most generous and unselfish person I've ever known. She was witty, fun and amazingly intelligent and talented. I am very blessed to have been able to call her friend. She will be greatly missed but Heaven has embraced a beautiful angel.
Much love to all of you,
Rosemary

Candy was a childhood friend and never lost her ability to smile and be beautiful of the heart. She will be sorely missed and remembered by those who had the priviledge to know her.
