Charles Campbell Obituary

Charles B. Campbell NORFOLK - Charles Brinkley Campbell, 86, of the 900 block of Little Bay Ave., went to be with the Lord July 8, 2010 in his home. He was born in Norfolk, and was the son of the late Charles William Campbell and Mary Margaret Bedout Campbell. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Vann Campbell; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jo Campbell; and son-in-law, Robert Horstman. He was a retired steamship clerk with the International Longshoremen's Association. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 327 and the Ocean View Democratic Club. He was also a member of American Legion Post 327 and an active member of the Willoughby Civic League. He was past president of the International Longshoremen's Association Local 1624 and the International Longshoremen's Association Retiree's Local No. 1, and past financial secretary for the Police Academy Alumni Association. Charles is survived by four children, Kent Campbell of Fairview, N.C., Charles G. Campbell of Eastville, Va., Linda Meehan of Machipongo, Va., and Debra Horstman of Virginia Beach; a brother, Roland E. Campbell of Norfolk; grandchildren, Ashley, Robin and Abigail Campbell, Katrina Davenport Allen and Carlos and Autumn Cardoza; great- grandchildren, Dylan Davenport, Austin Harper, Alexus Cardoza, Karlie Brady, Samuel Brady, Steven Cardoza, Nicholas and Alexzander Allen; caretaker, Cookie Dixon, endeared stepdaughter; a host of nieces and nephews; a beloved dog, Max. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Food Pantry, 155 W. Government Ave., Norfolk, VA 23503 or Love & Caring for the Homeless, P.O. Box 10434, Virginia Beach, VA 23450. Condolences may be offered to the family at www. hollomon-brown.com.

Charlie I am sure going to miss you. I really miss you & Shirley alot when i moved back to SC, now that I am back in Norfolk, VA i was hoping to see you, but I didnt make it. I know now that you are with the Angels and Shirley. We have been friends for a longtime over 15 yrs. My prayers are with all the family.
