Charles Savin Obituary


Charles S. Savin AHOSKIE - Charles Stewart Savin, 89, of the 800 block of W. Main Street, died Sept. 26, 2008, in Guardian Care of Ahoskie. Mr. Savin was born in Perquimans County, a son of the late John D. and Bertha Morgan Savin. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Ahoskie, having served as clerk of the session for many years. Charles was a proud Navy veteran during World War II, serving on a mine sweeper and the USS Yorktown. Following the war, he returned to Ahoskie and became owner and operator of Savin & Hill Co. and also Savin & Hill Communications Co. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Hill Savin and his daughter, Judy S. Terrell and her husband Ike of Morehead City, N.C. He leaves behind two granddaughters, Stephanie and her husband Bruce Henderson of Fayetteville, Ga., and Susanna and husband Craig Burns of Atlanta. He was a loving "Pa Pa" to three great-grandchildren, Parker Henderson, Blayke and Bowen Burns. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church of Ahoskie with the Rev. Richard Rice officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following service. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the Bertie County Ambulance Service, 606 S. King St., Windsor, NC 27983 or to the First Presbyterian Church of Ahoskie, P.O. Box 159, Ahoskie, NC 27910. Garrett Funeral Home, Ashley Chapel, is serving the Savin family.
