Clifton Williams

Clifton D. Williams NORFOLK - Clifton Drewry Williams, retired veteran of World War II, retired golf professional, Master Mason and Life Member Shriner, born 1922, passed July 13, 2010. He was the seventh son of seven sons of a family of 11. He is survived by son, Clifton D. Williams Jr.; daughter, Nancy Kay Basnight; granddaughter, Michelle Basnight; and brother, Herman Williams. Mr. Williams was a native of Norfolk. His Navy career during World War II with more than 30 battle engagements, resulted in a promotion from his heroic selfless act. He also participated in the Philippines Freedom Campaign. In 1950, he was part of the 5th Naval District Championship Golf Team. After retiring, he became a full time professional golfer, teaching the Sam Snead School of Golf and teaching golf for more than 50 years. His true home was Ocean View Golf Course. A funeral will be Monday, July 19, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk. Family will receive guests from noon to 1 p.m. Services will start at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
