Clifton Wrestler Obituary

Clifton G. Wrestler, Jr., 83, of Chesapeake, passed away Monday, March 16, 2021.

Mr. Wrestler was the son of the late Clifton George Wrestler and Dinorah Chamberlain Wrestler. He was also predeceased by siblings, Lucia and George. Clifton spent much of his early childhood in Costa Rica and nearby countries where his father was working. He came to live permanently in the United States at the age of eleven, and lived in Illinois, Florida and Virginia. He learned to fly small airplanes at an early age, and upon graduation from the University of Miami with a degree in Engineering, began to work for NASA Langley in Hampton, Virginia. He later joined the Department of Defense where he applied his talents to design and safety of airplanes. He continued working after retirement for airplane contractors and taught classes at Thomas Nelson and Tidewater Community College. He served for many years in leading Boy Scout Troop 48 in Newport News, Virginia and in assisting Boy Scout Troop 48 in Chesapeake. He was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for many years. He had a love for nature, woodworking, carving, and repair of old clocks. He designed wood items and rooms. A passionate traveler, he visited more than 40 countries around the world.

He is survived by his wife Joyce, whom he calls his "trophy wife"; sons, Clifton David Wrestler, and Arnold Brian Wrestler (Jeanette); daughter, Janet Wrestler (Randy Eckhoff); grandson, Nathan Eckhoff; granddaughters, Amanda Eckhoff, Julie Wrestler, and Annabelle Wrestler.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2021 at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Chesapeake. Friends are invited to sign the online guest book at www.omanfh.com.
