Constance M. Conrad

Norfolk - NORFOLK- Constance Miles Conrad, 81, died Thursday, March 16, 2017, in her home after a courageous battle with an incurable illness., frontotemporal dementia. She was a native of Schenectady, New York and was the daughter of the late Monford Powell and Elizabeth Wehrle Miles.

She is survived by her husband Walter P. Conrad, Jr. of Suffolk, and her children, Adair Conrad Wells and her husband Morgan of Norfolk, and Paul Conrad and his wife Jenni of Hailey, Idaho; her sister, Christie Shaw and husband Wallace Shaw of Connecticut; her grandchildren, Gus and Eli Conrad, and Hayden, Cate and James Wells; and dear friend and caregiver, Derrick Flood.

She was a graduate of the Chamberlain School, Boston, MA. After a year of liberal art education she moved to Boston and majored in retailing and merchandising.

A resident of Norfolk for more than 50 years, Connie touched the lives of so many. She led a very active life volunteering for a large number of civic and arts organizations. She served on boards of directors of the United Way, Norfolk Society of Arts, Richmond Ballet, and the Historic Homes of the Chrysler Museum among many others. She was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the West Ghent Garden Club, The Ruth Sargeant Circle of the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach. She was a devoted grandmother and treasured her lifelong friendships. She had extraordinary taste and led a life of dignity and grace. She was always very generous helping her friends and others. Connie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service will be held in Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Friday, March 24 at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters or St. Patrick Catholic School.
