I was a new deacon when Pastor Anderson served at Kempsville Presbyterian Church. He was great pastor and a very good preacher. We had a great congregation there.

David was the minister who married my husband Mark and I 50 years ago at the original KPS! We had ties to Calvin Presbyterian church at that time and we knew a lot of the same people! He was a special soul and a great Minister! Mark and Kathi Rikli Shonerd

I learned of David through very recent genealogical research. I was glad to find his obituary and even happier to read the comments about him. I wish I would have known him. Brian (6th Cousin, 1x removed - common ancestor is Diannah Vaden, 1770-1851, my 4G-Grandmother)

Pastor David was a profound influence in my life. I started going to KPC when I was five. He baptized me and my brother, and taught us catechism under the big apple tree that used to be in front of the old church. I surrendered to following the path of foundational goodness and when I strayed off the path, I found the most exquisite misery and aching need. I learned the true meaning of separation from God when I turned my back to follow my own way. Remembering the lessons of catechism with Pastor David, sitting under the branches of that giant apple tree raining white blossoms, he taught us the Hebrew word for sin was "hata", meaning "straying from the path". I understand now, thank you dear pastor for sharing that with me. I put my foot on the path and let it take me where I was supposed to go. None of us are perfect, but Pastor David's lessons were pure and true enough to stay with me for life.

Margaret, Christian, and John (you were just an infant), I loved you three kids and babysat for you when you were so very young. Your father was a really gifted teacher and I am grateful for the time I had with you all.

David and I met over 59 years ago at Hampden-Sydney College. No two students were so obviously opposite; he was the intelligent, studious scholar and I was the dumb jock. Yet, we became bound in a friendship that withstood all the tests that so many years provide. He was proud to have adopted me as his “big brother” and I was equally proud to accept. When my son was born, there was no question who his namesake would be. I will miss my Little Brother greatly.

David was a great teacher of Gods word and had a unique way of bringing it to life. My husband and I were the Senior High Youth leaders at KPC under his leadership. Blessings to his family.

Margaret, I am really saddened to hear of David's passing. A really good guy who married one of my nicest neighbors. As time goes on, the good memories will push out most of the grief. Unfortunately, some grief will always be there.

David could preach a life-changing sermon in his final prayer on Sunday morning. He was an amazing teacher and led me and so many others deeper into our walks with the Lord. I cannot begin to express how deeply I appreciate all David did for me as my preacher, teacher, counselor, and friend. Heaven has gained a true servant of the Lord.

David Anderson was my pastor growing up at Kempsville Presbyterian. I lost touch with him for many years, but we reconnected about 6 or 7 years ago.
During these past few years,he has been my friend,my mentor,my spiritual advisor and my unofficial Math tutor ( NOBODY understands my brain like David did, and math has kept me from graduating college; I just don't get it). I haven't talked to him much the past couple years,so I didn't know how much he'd deteriorated. I called/ texted regularly, hoping for a response.
There are a LOT of us KPC kids( and other former church members) who would like to be informed of any possible Memorial Service that occurs.
My number is in his phone ( David Needs: 757-386-2254).
I'm keeping others informed about any developments, and although I'm in Virginia Beach,WE are all over the country.

I am not surprised by all David's accolades and achievements. He was a boy of great virtue and intelligence who became a man of great works. David and Peggy were classmates at WWHS '60. My sincerest condolences to the family. It was my privilege to have known him.
