David LaConte Obituary

David W. LaConte VIRGINIA BEACH - David Wayne LaConte, 58, of the 4500 block of Revere Drive, was killed Nov. 13, 2009, in Afghanistan. A native of Milwaukee, Wis., he was the husband of Robin Gariepy LaConte and the son of Joyce Hendricks LaConte and the late Steven LaConte. He was a Navy Seal who retired as a senior chief with 23 years of service and was most recently employed as an independent contractor working in Afghanistan. Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by a daughter, Courtney LaConte; a son, Cody LaConte; his mother; two sisters, Luanne Wrobbel and Diane Tutton; a brother, Steven LaConte; several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church, Norfolk, with the Rev. Ron Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Naval Special Warfare Foundation, P.O. To the Laconte Family and the SEAL Community, I am so very sorry for your loss and my prayers and thoughts are with you. I had the pleasure of working/living with Dave in Afghanistan on his current project. I said my final goodbye to Dave on the 9th of November, when he left and heading out of Bagram to see the unit he would be working with...He was a great guy, and this has hit me hard!! Dave and I would often give each other a hard time as I am a US Army Ranger and he is a SEAL,(fin as I called him). We smoked cigars and chatted the time away ofter at night. God Bless you and your family, and the world is at a complete loss with this tragic event; This is for all those to read and understand;

I worked with Dave at BUD/S back in the late 70's, Dave was always a good friend and team mate and had a great desire to prove himself as a warrior. I think he's accomplished his task and died doing what he loved and he is and always will be, a warrior's warrior.
