Douglas H. Reynolds

Virginia Beach - Douglas Howland Reynolds died peacefully on September 14th, 2015 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Virginia at the age of 74.

Doug is survived by his four sons (John Howland Reynolds of Simi Valley, CA.; Lee Taylor Reynolds of Richmond, Virginia; Grant Wiley Reynolds of Encino, CA.; and Mark Phillip Reynolds of Edinburgh, Scotland) and his sister, Ann Reynolds, of Prescott, AZ.

Doug, son of Lee Ruskin Reynolds and Mary Leach Reynolds was born in Joliet, IL. Early in life his family moved to Greenville, TN where he graduated from Greenville High School in 1959. After graduation, Doug attended the Frederick Military Academy of Portsmouth, VA and in 1965 earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN.

Doug served in both the Tennessee and Virginia National Guard, and was honorably discharged in 1971.

Doug served more than 35 years as a distinguished US Government Civil Servant, working for the Department of the United States Navy and retired in November of 2000 as a GS-14, Deputy Director of Printing and Procurement for the US Marine Corps, Department of the Navy.

Doug was an active parishioner of Star of the Sea Catholic Church, in Virginia Beach, VA where he volunteered much of his time.

In both high school and college Doug lettered in basketball. Doug was an avid golfer who also played volleyball, tennis and racquetball. Doug enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and loved the beach and gardening in his backyard.

Doug is remembered by his children as a loving, dutiful, attentive father and grandparent. His friends remember Doug as a charming, intelligent and jovial gentleman.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 AM on Saturday, September 19th at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach where Father Esteban DeLeon will officiate the holy ceremony and a reception will follow. Friends and Family are welcome to attend and celebrate Doug's life. While flowers are welcome, donations to the American Cancer Society are greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff of Star of the Sea Catholic Church for their love and care. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd. Chapel is handling arrangements. Dear John, Lee, Grant and Mark, I just now saw your Dads obituary and am so sorry for your loss. I knew your Dad a long time ago and have lots of wonderful memories of our times together. You all are in my prayers. Renate Foxwell

Dear John, Lee, Grant and Mark, Uncle Bob and I want you to know how sorry we are that you have lost your loving father. I know that you will miss him so very much. He was a great dad and he will be missed by so many. I am so glad that we were able to say our good bye to him when we were in Va. Beach last month. Our love to all of you at this time. We will keep all of you in our prayers.
