Chesapeake - Elizabeth Theresa "Betty" Smith passed peacefully April 29, 2015 surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Philadelphia September 14, 1929. Betty attended Holy Spirit Catholic School in Sharon Hill PA. Betty moved to Princess Anne County in the 1950's and immediately called the area home. She always thought the people were so friendly. Betty worked many jobs throughout her life to support her family including the Officers Club in the 1950's, Zero's, Winn-Dixie, Stewart Sandwiches, and finally retiring from Tidewater Macke at CGH. Betty was always known for her good cooking, would never let anyone out of the house without a meal, and would usually send you home with "a plate" as well. Betty loved westerns, country music and chocolate. Betty loved to talk and had no problem striking up conversations with total strangers as she was a very friendly person. Betty would give you the shirt off of her back even if it meant she did without. She was a caring, giving individual who lived an altruistic life. She was predeceased by her father John Henry Bockius I, mother Lillian Brady Bockius, sister Lillian Short, brother William Bockius, and very special niece Janie Taggart. Left to cherish her memory are sister Kathleen Brown, brother John Bockius II, children Tom Smith, Michael Smith and wife Donna, Ginny Twiford and husband Barry, Dr. Joseph Smith and wife Sondra, and grandchildren Joshua, Matthew, Danielle, Courtney, Madison, Keil, Craig, Christina, Jessica, Emily, Ariel, and Joey, 6 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and a special friend Hilda Cabaio who all meant the world to her. The family would like to send a very special thank you to the staff at Sentara Leigh hospital for the wonderful and professional care they provided our Mother in her final days. A funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at St. Matthews Catholic Church 3314 Sandra Lane Va. Beach 12 noon Saturday May 16th .
