Elvie Speight Obituary
Chesapeake - On Friday, September 14, 2018, Elvie "Red" Speight, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior at age 82. Elvie was born on April 29,1936 in Chesapeake, VA to Raynor and Helen Speight. He graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1954 and lettered in multiple sports. Elvie proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. After 42 years he retired from Norshipco as operations manager for commercial programs. After retirement he went to work for Cahoon Plantation Golf course. Elvie had a passion for youth, sports, church and his wife. He served as both an elder and deacon in his church. He loved the time he spent together with his wife traveling and doing life. He was known for his wit, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Elvie was preceded in death by his parents as well as a sister. He is survived by his wonderful wife Jennifer of many years whom he wholeheartedly cherished. His children, Randy Speight and wife Margie, Carrie Gentile and husband Tony, three granddaughters, and a grandson. Four great grandchildren his brother Kenny and wife Rhoda. Family will gather on Monday September 17th 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 18th 2018 at 11:00 am. Both will take place at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on Witchduck Rd. in VA Beach.

Elvie my friend, work mate, and traveling buddy......we chased a bunch of cruise ships in the Caribbean for Norshipco. He was a role model to me and many young yardbirds....RIP my old friend.

Elvie was my Sunday School teacher at a very important time in my life, and was influential in strengthening my faith. He and his wife came to watch me cheer at football games, knowing my own parents could not, and gave me Encouragement to do well in school. I babysat Randy and Carrie and loved seeing the good example they had in their father. Thank you for living your life as you did, Elvie. You made a difference
