Frances Mansfield Obituary

Frances R. Mansfield HAMPTON - Frances Romani Mansfield, 86, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Mansfield was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, William Mansfield Jr. She was a native of Norristown, Pa., but resided in Hampton since 1965. She was a World War II veteran, having received the American Campaign Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal, and proudly served in the WAVES (U.S. Naval Reserve) and maintained membership in WAVES National. As a civil service retiree of 30 years, Mrs. Mansfield loved to talk about her days in uniform and reminisce about the past. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 31 of Hampton. Mrs. Mansfield enjoyed playing cards and bingo with friends at Sinclair Commons and traveling. Mrs. Mansfield was an avid viewer of WTKR News Channel 3, where she loved watching her granddaughter, Juliet Bickford, anchor/reporter, with great pride. Survivors include two sons, Mark Mansfield and his wife, Gloria of N. Augusta, S.C., and Tony Mansfield and his wife, Rose of Guam; four daughters, Susan Bickford and her husband Paul of Hampton, Donna Malone and her husband Ralph of McDonough, Ga., Frances Moran and her husband Stan of Mobile, Ala., and Mary Downey and her husband Jeff of Hampton. Other survivors include her brother, Mark Romani of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; and her sister, Joanne Ryan of Palm Desert, Calif. She found great enjoyment in her 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to Ms. Louvenia Slade of Hampton, for her longtime love and companionship. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.

Dear Ms. Fran,

I was honored to learn about you through your nephew, Mark Romani. He is my aunt's husband and has shared many wonderful things about your life including his memories of family gatherings that were filled with your warmth, light, and enthusiasm. I hope your family finds peace and joy with the many memories you have filled them with.

Sincerely,
Nancy Ann

Hello, I think I went to school with Tony Mansfield. It was either at Buckroe Jr. High or Kecoughtan High. It has been a long time if this is the correct Tony Mansfield, just want to say hello and that I still remember you! I am sorry about your Mother's passing. May the happy memories you and your family had with her get you through this trying time. I have lost both of my parents and I tell my sister's that I feel like an orphan : 0 ) Anyway you and your family take care and God Bless your Mother and your family. Tony if you have time email me a few lines and let me know what you've been up to since our school days.

Condolences to our family there. Wish Guam wasn't so far away. My greatest keepsakes are the cards and letters she wrote me throughout my life.

I am so very sorry. I have always carried memories from when we were neighbors on Zinzer Dr. Now they are more precious than ever! May you find comfort in your memories as well.
