Francis Bryce Obituary

Francis Bryce
Virginia Beach - LCDR Francis "Scotty/Frank" Bryce, USN (ret),Virginia Beach, Va., passed away peacefully on December 10, 2011, at The University of Virginia Medical Center after a long and courageous fight with a chronic respiratory disease. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 20, 1943, and was preceded in death by his parents David and Salina Bryce and his oldest brother David D. Bryce. He leaves behind his twin brother Jack, his wife Tish, daughters Terry MacCall and Kathy Murray, as well as his much loved grandchildren Andrea and Danny MacCall and Robby and Kenny Murray. All of whom he was especially proud. In addition to his immediate family, he will also be missed by his extensive family of over 50 cousins and relatives.
Scotty joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 as a Seaman Recruit. He was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer, Chief Warrant Officer 3, and Lieutenant Commander, ultimately retiring on December 1, 1986, after 25 years. He served his country in various positions and duty stations, including Fighter Squadron 143, USS Constellation, USS Lexington and the USS Papago. He was also stationed at Naval Stations Anacostia, Rota Spain and in Washington D.C., where he served in numerous departments, including Naval Sea Systems Command. While serving his country, he received numerous medals and commendations, including four Good Conduct medals, a Vietnam Service Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and ribbons for Sea Service Deployment and Battle Efficacy.
After retirement he completed his BS degree and continued his studies to obtain his Master's degree while working as a Senior Proposal Manager for several companies in the Northern Virginia area. In 1998, he formed F. Bryce Consulting and continued to work until the time of his passing.
As a passionate drummer, he played in several bands throughout his life but loved traditional jazz music the most and recorded two CDs for his grandchildren to enjoy. Of all the bands and musicians he played with, his favorites were any which included his brother Jack.
Frank loved his family unconditionally and cherished all his friends. He loved reading, writing, golfing, boating, fishing and travel.
Frank will take his place among our nation's heroes at Arlington National Cemetery on March 29, 2012, at 10:45 a.m.

Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, the happy memories we have of those golden days of high school and the years after will keep Frank alive and playing those tunes in our hearts. And when we are together in heaven we know whose music we'll be dancing to!

As we all know Frank was truely a Very Special Person. There is a statement that would all know that we are talking about our Frank..."He Was One In A Million". He touched many lives in many ways. Rest in Peace our Dear Friend. Sandra Hasson Kaplan - class of '61

We, the North Arlington High School, Class of 1961 were fortunate to be able to see Frank and spend time with him at our 50th Class Reunion on November 5. Frank, you will definitely be missed.
It was always great being in touch via email. Your upbeat personality and slant on so many things will always be cherished. On a personal note, Frank helped me identify a 1940's song that I had tried to identify.
I have both of Frank's CD's and play them all the time. Love the Big Band era as much as he did. God Bless!

As God has taken Frank from this earth, we all realize what a strong character and good influence he was. We remember him from the Viscounts with brother, Jack,Jack Gottsell, Buddy Filipone, Richie Janes, and Sammy Ciresi.---The K of C, St Stephen, CYO and other venues.

Unfortunately we did not have contact with Frank after 1961 when he joined the Navy, but we now remember him as a very moral person with a great sense of achieving goals.
I suspect he's with God enjoying eternal happiness.
