Georgie Tyer Obituary
Virginia Beach - Georgie Alma Tyer, 81, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2015. She was born in Mecklenburg, N.C. and was a very loving and giving person who had a very full life. Georgie was involved early on with The Garden Club, the Women's Club and later the local Civic League. She was also an avid baker, showering family and friends with everything from cookies to wedding cakes.
Georgie's second family was Our Saviour Lutheran Church where she was a member for over 59 years. There she helped start the women's group WELCA and served as its president for a time. She also taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and helped with many church events.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 64 years Robert; Sister Venie Decker; Son, Rob, his wife Christie and her daughter Caressa; Second son Jim; and Daughter Janice Grissom, her husband Buck and grandchildren Luke and Jasamine and a multitude of extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held May 16, 1:00 pm at Our Saviour Lutheran Church at 4200 Shore Dr. V.B. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church/Scholarship Fund. Please visit her book of memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a note to the family.

Georgie, you are sorely missed! May your anointing of love, strength, organization and giving, pass onto your family and also your church family. May a special blessing be on Bob to be able to endure without you. Thank you for sharing your dedicated compassionate pastor with me. He truly is an example of our Father's love for everyone. We know love is the only way to come to "Papa" through the gate/door of Jesus Christ. He left us with our comforter, the wise Holy Spirit. I have been truly blessed to encounter your family. Georgie with your new body you now have no more difficulty and can rest in peace. Janice and Venee were always there to cheer you over each encounter and now you send your cheer and love from above, as they carry on your legacy. I love you Georgie. Georgie Tyer was a special women. She was the mother of my best friend and I've known her for many years. She always had a kind word to say ,a smile to share, and a hand to lend when needed.She had a love for Angels and had them all over her house. May those Angels watch over her family and bring them peace and comfort. She will be truly missed.

I will always remember what a kind and gentle God Loving lady she was. The mother of one of my best friends. She was loved and respected by many and will truly be missed but know that she is with Our Lord.

Georgie was one of the sweetest ladies I ever knew. I loved her dearly. She and I sold Tupperware together for many years. She was always a very loving and caring person. She was encouraging to everyone she met. We know she is in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am praying peace for all of you. Dottie Wiest

God blessed me with having Georgie in my life. We attended Sunday school together for many years. She was such an example of faithfulness. I will miss her life stories of wisdom and faith. Her contributions to every event at Our Savior's will be greatly missed. I know she loved her family and our church family. There will be such a void without her smile and laughter.
