Gerald Haynie Obituary


Gerald D. Haynie COLUMBUS - Gerald Demarest "Gerry" Haynie, 82, passed away Nov. 17, 2008. He was a native of Virginia, and served in the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and later received a master's degree from New York University. He retired from Bell Telephone Laboratories after 35 years of service. He moved to Connestee Falls in Brevard 16 years ago, and had just recently moved to Tryon Estates in Columbus. He had a passion for photography, enjoyed choral singing, tennis and ballroom dancing. He was a wonderful person and will be missed deeply by his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Ninalee; son, David Haynie and wife Liz; daughters, Kathy Haynie and her partner Bob, Harmony Sue Haynie and Linda Siebert and husband Chris; stepchildren, Doug May, Dave May and wife Julie, Steve May and wife Stevie, Scott May and wife Carolyn; and 15 beloved grandchildren; his sister, Vivian Tucker of Lancaster, Va.; his brother, Dr. Collin Haynie of Norfolk; and his cousin, Thomas Pruet, also of Norfolk. A memorial service was held at in Tryon Estates. Another service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Transylvania County at 24 Varsity St. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for Oxfam or your favorite charity.
