To Ms. Genero Lamb and the Lamb Family;
It was with sadness today that I learned, via a Hartford Courant editorial, of the passing of your father, Mr. Gerald Lamb. I had the honor and pleasure of being appointed by him and working under him in the Viet Nam Bonus Division of the State Treasurer's office (as a claims auditor) when he was Connecticut's state treasurer. This was during the late 1960's into the early 1970's, a tumultous period in American history. Mr. Lamb's concerned, but even handed, approach and manner of handling a variety of civil rights and social issues during that period were helpful in moving forward some crucial agendas and projects. He did this while still carrying out the duties of State Treasurer including providing the state's bonus payments to its citizens who served on active duty during the designated "Viet Nam" was period. He was also instrumental in advancing the campaigns of some other African American candidates for political office, which helped break new political grounds. In some of the meetings I attened of the state African American Democratic organization, Mr. Lamb spoke and acted with dignity in the midst of sometime highly charged and heated debate. By action, he set some standards for subsquent politial office holders and not just Afrian American office holders. It was my honor to have served with him and his appointees William "Tocco" Sullivan of Waterbury and Albert Maule of Wethersfield.
