Gregory Shorty Obituary
Chesapeake - Gregory Allen Shorty, age 47, passed away on November 14, 2017, at Bon Secours Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. He was a long time and dedicated employee of Advance Auto Parts and considered the "go to" source for many customers. Greg was big-hearted and never failed to help anyone in need. He also loved animals and was loved back by them. Greg was originally from Forest Hill, Maryland, and was a criminal justice graduate of University of Maryland. He is survived by his mother Barbara Shorty of Sun City West, AZ, and his brother Thomas Shorty (Amy) of Middletown, DE. He will be missed locally by his many friends but especially by his wife Melissa Shorty and her children Deanna and Christopher; and by his loving companion Melisa Brown and her children Kelley and Jesse. A memorial mass will be held at the Church of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321 on Friday, December 1, at 11:00 a.m.

We were very sad to hear about Gregs passing. My brothers and I grew up next door to the Shortys in Forest Hill MD and we had countless adventures together, from baseball to bike rides to sledding. From all of the Etzels, our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara, Tom, and the rest of Gregs family and friends.

I just found out today that Shorty passed. I used to work with him at Advance, and had moved to WV about 10 years ago, but I would still call him to shoot the breeze or with automotive questions.
Greg was one of the greats. He made an impact on my life when I worked with him, and I always think about my time in VA and working with him fondly.
He was a great person, a good friend, and I wish that I had gotten to be around him more than I had and that I also had kept in touch more often.
He will be greatly missed, and I send my condolences and prayers for strength to all his friends and family.
RIP Shorty, I'll have a cup of coffee in a snowman cup for you.

Greg was a friend of mine from high school. I remember him very fondly, as we both shared band together for at least two years. Greg had an amazing sense of humor, and it was all that we could do to play or march in spite of our laughter! I wish to extend his parents, wife, and children my deepest sympathies. -Paul Grimes

So sad to hear about Greg's passing. We were friends in high school and he always had this big hearted energy about him. He was great guy to be around and first to lend a hand when someone needed help. I have some really great memories of Greg. Sadly, I lost track of him after college.
