Guy Hamilton Putman Jr.

Guy Hamilton Putman, Jr., 103. passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in a Norfolk hospital. Mr. Putman retired not only from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander but also from SunTrust Bank as a comptroller.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Mary Ford Putman and Guy H. Putman, Sr. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Bragg Putman. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Guy H. Putman III of Norfolk; and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Guy enlisted in the Navy when he graduated St. Michaels high school in 1935. After the Navy, Guy received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary, now known as Old Dominion University.

Guy's passions included Boy Scouts, fishing, and ballroom dancing. Until COVID 19 curtailed activities in early 2020, Guy Jr coached seniors to dance and danced himself several times a week. He often said that staying active and eating well helped him keep fit and healthy.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21st also in the Norfolk Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
