Gwyn Caudill Obituary

Gwyn Caudill VIRGINIA BEACH - Gwyn "Pat" Caudill, 86, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer June 29, 2009, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Julian Davenport with members of his family at his side. Pat was born in Smethport, N.C., March 17, 1923. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years as a chief aviation machinist's mate and from the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) after 22 years as an aircraft mechanic. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Davenport and husband Julian and Stephanie Barden and husband Terry; four grandchildren, Brian Daniels and wife Ann, Christa Baker and husband Charles, Beckie Barden, Amber Lain and husband Scott; four great-grandchildren, Cali Daniels, Willow and Silas Baker and Cody Lain; one sister, Poodle Denny; three brothers, Harold, Roger and Arthur Dale Caudill and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was respected by all who met and knew him and will always be remembered because of his big smile and many hugs. A "Sharing the Memories" memorial visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 5, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., at the Mountlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Volunteer Rescue Squads, the Virginia Oncology Associates Cancer Center Volunteers or Heartland Hospice Care. Special thanks to Dr. Burton Alexander and his nursing staff at Virginia Oncology Associates and to Heartland Physical Therapy and Hospice Care. Sue, Julian and family, Thank you for your heroic effort in bringing Uncle Pat to the mountains and getting us all up to the cabin. I think it made this day slightly easier, although I already miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
