Harry Putnam Obituary
Norfolk - Harry F. Putnam III, 79, died January 10, 2018. Known far and wide as Sonny, he was many things a gifted actor, a natural sailor, an experienced diver, an amazing friend. Goodness knows he loved a good drink..and Willie...but most importantly he was a devoted Son and Brother and a fine Uncle. Sonny cared deeply about others and never met a stranger. He was an intelligent, well read man who enjoyed lively and deep conversation. He lived life on his terms, instigating and experiencing many things for which there are many stories told and untold.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Sadie Elizabeth Duke and Father, Harry F. Putnam Jr. (Teenie); and sister, Shirley Putnam Brice (Sissy). He is survived by his proud nieces, Amy Gilman of Norfolk and Paige Brice of Charlotte.
We would like to recognize the staff and nurses of Signature Healthcare on Hampton Boulevard. We are grateful for your care, love and laughter. Your commitment to our Uncle was inspiring.
Sonny's ashes will be spread in his beloved bay in Norfolk in the Spring. Anyone wishing to send remembrances of any kind is welcome. Please forward to Paige Brice, 1930 Abbott St., Suite 401, Charlotte, NC 28203 or to [email protected]. They will certainly be honored and included in the release of his ashes.
Sail on Sonny. Steady as she goes, keep it in the wind.

Just found out about his passing. He was such a wonderful co-worker and human being. We could use more people like him. I will always remember his tag line "You can't get there from here". We had great conversations and laughs. Consider myself blessed to have known him.

Oh Sonny P. you were one the finest gentlemen I ever met and I had the pleasure of being your boss, your friend, your fishing partner, drinking buddy and great swapper of lies. I'm sure Heaven has a new level of entertainment now. RIP brother. Steady as she goes!

I am going to miss Sony, Mr Putnum was a sweet man and also a funny man, one of the things I enjoyed the most was feeding him , he would say some funny things! I will miss him yelling out , God did you call me god?He will truly be missed and I am glad I had the chance to meet Mr putnum! ❤❤❤ RIH Sony!
