Hazel Hofler

Hazel S. Hofler SUNBURY - Hazel Stallings Hofler, 90, formerly of Orchard Street in Sunbury, and more recently of Brookridge Baptist Retirement Home in Winston- Salem, N.C., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009. Mrs. Hofler was born in Gates County, and was the last surviving child of the late Asa R. and Pastoria Rountree Stallings. A retired sales lady from the Young Men's Shop in Suffolk, she was a member of Damascus Christian Church. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Hofler. Surviving are her daughter, Betty H. Watson and husband John of Clemmons, N.C.; her son, James Carroll Hofler and wife Sina of Newport News; three grandchildren, Jamy Novosel and husband Sam of Burkburnett, Texas, Mel Hofler and wife Christina of Enid, Okla., and Tracy Watson of Greenville, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew Hofler, Kendra Hofler, and Samuel Novosel IV. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery, Sunbury, by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, is handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the church social hall following the graveside rites.
