Helen Everett Obituary

Helen Naomi Keehn Freeman Everett fell asleep in Jesus December 24, Christmas Eve, at the Gardens of Virginia Beach 13 days before her 102nd birthday.

Born in 1921 and raised in Norfolk, Helen, a first generation American, was the daughter of Frederick and Martha Heyer Keehn who had immigrated to America as ethnic Germans from Lithuania prior to World War 1.

She graduated from Maury High School and attended the Norfolk extension of William and Mary College and Longwood College (now University) each for one year.

Helen was a dedicated wife and mother who loved and served her Lord and his Church. From 1950 to 1968 she served at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Granby Street, Norfolk as a preschool teacher, principal and parish worker. Subsequently, as a volunteer, in many capacities, she particularly enjoyed her Altar Guild service. During the 1970s when she lived in Franklin, she was instrumental in the founding of Grace Lutheran Church, Courtland, Va.

Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her first husband John W. Freeman, Jr in 1976, her second husband Leroy L. Everett in 2005, her brother William E Keehn in 1993, and a grandson Christopher J. V. Kirk in 1992.

Helen demonstrated care, concern and love for all, becoming the family matriarch. She is survived by daughter Lois Beck, Richmond; daughter Nancy Kirk and her husband Pr. Raymond V. Kirk, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; granddaughter Deborah Lewis and her husband Robert Lewis, Jr., Knoxville, Tennessee, and grandson Paul Kirk and his wife Lisa Kirk, Hanover Park, Illinois. Also surviving are four great grandsons Dylan, Christopher, Jackson and Ethan, two great granddaughters Emma and Alaina, as well numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, 3600 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday January 3. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday January 4 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6001 Granby Street, Norfolk. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6001 Granby Street, Norfolk, 23505 with a notation to the Lutheran Women's Missionary Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.hollomon-brown.com

Wise, funny and kind are just a few words to describe Helen. She made the best pumpkin bread. May her memory be a blessing for all those who knew her! 101 3/4 years well lived, you will be missed.
