Greetings friends and family of J. Michael Hunter,
On behalf my mother, sisters and brother Jack, I wanted to thank you all for your kind words, memories, and gestures to honor my Father.
Over the past months since his passing, we have worked to acknowledge the kindness we have been shown, and want everyone to know that if you have not heard from us, it is because we do not have a mailing address for you.
We are deeply blessed and thankful for every act of kindness we have been shown, and are grateful for the respect my Father has been shown.
If you are interested in receiving one of his memorial mass cards, please feel free to email me with your name and home address, and we will happily send it out to you.

I only found out this evening that Michael, whose acting was astoudingly good even as a teen, had passed away. I, and all who value the performing arts, and who valued him as a dear as well as a superbly talented and insightful friend will miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family, and my sympathies to those who have never seen his work. He will be deeply missed, even by those who do not know what they missed by not knowing him or his work.

Thinking of your family in this tough time. It is a time of grief for those he has left behind, but a celebration of the life and legacy he created while he was here.
My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. I hope that you all will find peace in knowing that he is at peace now.
Much love,

Michael, Elizabeth and his beautiful trio of girls were my first non-family visitors when I gave birth to my little girl Cecilia. Cecilia and "Baby Jack" were born on the same day, in the same hospital. I was a single mom, struggling through school, raising a son and had very few resources. I was afraid, broke and lonely. The girls or Mike would come by to visit every time they came by to see Baby Jack. Such a sweet, loving family. When my dad died, I remembered how much he admired Mike. So when I asked, of course, Michael read one of the readings at my dad's funeral Mass. He cried. We all cried. I'm crying now. I can't believe he has left us. My solace is knowing that he is at peace, with God. We'll see him again one day.

Michael Hunter was a year ahead of me at HTS and NCHS. He was always a strong and vibrant person and everyone loved the plays that he was in at NCHS. We all attended Holy Trinity School and Church as children and I remember his mother as such a nice lady and his sister, Mary as one of the prettiest girls ever!! And like our large family, it was always so obvious that they loved each other and stayed close throughout the years. I know that you will miss him so much as my youngest brother, Paul was killed in a car accident 35 years ago and my oldest brother, Dick died 10 years ago from pancreatic cancer. Our family circle was broken and will never be the same.
Keep his memories alive and it will make it a little easier. Thanks for the life of J. Michael Hunter.

Margie was one of my best and truest friends in high school and I will always hold the Hunters in a special place in my heart. I actually burst into tears when I saw this news because though it's been years and years, Mr. Hunter left a big impression on my teenage self. When my boyfriend broke up with me, he had me climb under their house and help smash and tear up old pipes to get out my anger! I will never forget that! Every moment spent with the Hunter family was special. You could tell this was a family built on love. I am so heartbroken for you guys because I know how close you all were. Please know you have touched so many more lives than just your own with that bond and that love. We love you guys.

Michael was the tour manager for "The States" on our first outing with Hall and Oates(you can add that to his resume). He was asked to step in at the last moment and lets just say he had to coral the heard on occasion. And he did it with that even demeanor and soft voice. Without saying, "I got this". He had that. Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulder when the pressure weighed down on me. R.I.P. JM. See you in the cosmos. Love Mickey

I am overwhelmed with sadness to learn of Michael's passing. I could not possibly give him more adoration or praise because my words are insufficient to account for the gifts he gave others or who were touched by or witnessed first hand his remarkable love and devotion to his family; and especially to his beloved son Jack. I was always inspired by him and his family's mere presence at weekly mass and in just those brief brushes of contact we had was enough to fill my cup with strength and affirmation of my faith as a Roman Catholic for weeks and weeks. If I ever felt incapable of doing something or deminished by my own circumstances, feeling that I was too bereft of the ability to succeed, all I had to do was to look to J. Michael Hunter and not feel jealously or apprehension, but instead passion, confidence, strength and courage. As those latter attributes are the qualities that are undeniable in describing the way which the earthly life of J. Michael Hunter was lived. I will now miss him until, I pray, we will be reunited in the resurrected body of Christ Our Lord when my own death comes some day.

Goodbye Daddy,
I'm so glad that your struggle is over, I will miss you more than I can express. I find comfort in knowing that you are now finally at peace. I'm devastated, heartbroken, and traumatized, as "Lovey Mom," Margie, Mary-Gallagher and Jack are. I find comfort in knowing that you are looking over us and helping us to navigate our adventures, knowing that you are watching over our sweet Sonny girl as she grows.
You were truly an inspiration, both creativley and spritiually. We have had a hard time. It was devastaing to watch you and to learn how you were unable to function on your own. I am blessed and so thankful to have walked with you on this journey. I am so blessed to have savored every moment of your last days with you as we gardened and played in the pool with Sonny and Jack. I pray that you have truly found the eternal peace that we all constantly hoped for. I am grateful that Father Brian administered your last rites and I can't wait to see your beaming face again.
Daddy, guide my stumbling feet, keep them on the path of honesty and truth, fill my heart with love and help me to give it as freely as you did, let my eyes see beyond the surface to look for the good in everyone, and please, if at times I don't live up to your expectations continue to bless me with your love, Amen".
I have lots to live up to, thank you for being you, xox your middle girl, O
Friends and loved ones, daddy did not want a wake nor a funeral. Please share picutres, stories, thoughts and prayers, here on his guest book.

Living far away from what was home for so long is a a blessing that leaves room for some grief. I see Michael today as I did 25 years ago when we worked together. In workshops he was a much better teacher than he gave himself credit for-I suspect that changed for him. Michael was funny, kind, occasionally haughty and distant, down to earth and very wise. He knew he'd have to give this life to the God of his understanding or never be authentic. I know his wife, his rock, helped him get there. Blessings to all of Michael's family, to the McDonnells and his many friends.

J Michael and I met around 1960 in the Cub Scouts and were close friends for decades.
As with J Michael, his parents and siblings (Kurt, Kathy, Mary and Tricia) were (and are) very loving people with whom you feel an easy and instantaneous bond.
J Michael especially was a very innocent soul with no agenda who only wanted to get along with everyone he met.
I'm thankful for the many memorable adventures we shared when we were young and both innocent.

Michael generously provided the voices for the Prince in my puppet versions of "Cinderella" and the hero in my "King Neptune in Atlantis", presented in countless performances from 1976 through 1980 at Chrysler Museum, Tidewater Dinner Theatre, the Naro and on tour from New England down to Florida. As his voice was on tape, I heard him do those lines during performances a couple hundred times! I don't remember Michael without a smile on his face, especially at his "yellow house" in Ghent. He loved acting with a relentless passion. I remember Michael with great fondness.
