Jack Carter Obituary

Jack L. Carter

Virginia Beach - Jack Lee Carter, 83, passed away Aug. 7, 2018. He was born in Cooleemee, NC to the late Edward and Versie Carter. Jack joined the U.S. Navy when he was just 17 years old and retired after 20 years, which included a year in Antarctica. He was a proud plank owner of the USS DDR K.D. Bailey. He also retired from the Naval Base Public Works Printing & Publications Dept. Not one to be idle, he took a part time job after retirement with Cardinal Health, where he worked for 12 years. Jack was a past Master of Naomi Masonic Lodge #87 AF&AM and a member of the Chesapeake Khedive Shrine Provost unit. In his role he transported children and their families to the Shriners Hospital in SC.

Jack's first wife, Reno Carter and his son, Jack L. Carter, Jr. predeceased him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Joan Hope Carter of Virginia Beach; daughters, Tracy Teague of Grandy, NC and Carol Grantham (Frank) of Grand Island, FL; step-daughter, Stacy Hope Schubart of Virginia Beach; step-son, Brian Hope (Rebecca) of Surrey, England; and grandchildren, Thomas and David Teague, Chelsey and Tabitha Grantham, Brier Haycox, and Ray, Nick and Philip Hope.

A special thanks to all of Jack's friends, the amazing team from Freda H. Gordon Hospice Care and especially the staff and associates at First Colonial Inn for all of their help, kindness and caring. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thurs. Aug. 16, 2018 at First Colonial Inn, 845 First Colonial Rd, Virginia Beach.
