Jack Vick Obituary


Jack W. Vick COURTLAND - Jack Wesley Vick, 85, widower of Marilyn Kitchen Vick, died June 13, 2008. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Lula Sexton Vick. He served in the U.S. Navy in the European Theatre and was a retired 9th generation Virginia tobacco farmer. Mr. Vick was a charter member of Indiantown Hunt Club, charter member of both Sebrell Civic Club and the Southampton County Historical Society, a member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge AF&AM, former chairman of the Southampton County Democratic Party and a longtime scout for the Baltimore Orioles. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and later Courtland Baptist Church. He is survived by his sons, Steven Vick and wife Mary and Joe Vick and wife Dianne, all of Courtland; a sister, Lovella V. Tisdale of Franklin; six grandchildren, Tiffany Pecht, Jessica Hoffman, Alexandra Bustin, Taylor Vick, Sally and Marena Vick and two great-grandsons, Hunter Bustin and Grant Hoffman. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son, David Wesley Vick; brothers, Joseph Vick Jr. and Jimmie Vick; and three sisters, Mildred Smith, Dorothy Richards and Catherine Everett. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Antioch Baptist Church, Yale, Va. with the Rev. Thomas Speight officiating. Interment, with Masonic rites, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the Southampton County Historical Society, c/o Lynda Updike, 33335 Statesville Road, Newsoms, VA 23874 or the Alzheimer's Association, 6315 N.
