James Batts Obituary

James A. Batts VIRGINIA BEACH - James A. Batts, 74, passed away June 6, 2011. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn F. Johnson-Batts, and parents, James and Christabelle Batts. James graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk; and Virginia State University, Petersburg. He retired as an educator with Norfolk Public Schools System after 34 years of service. He was a member of Union United Church of Christ, the National Education Association, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He is survived by two sons, Ahmed J. Batts, and Jamal A. Batts; three grandchildren; one goddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in Union United Church of Christ, 877 Goff Street, Norfolk. A wake will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St. Chapel. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
