Jerry A. Pettersson

Chesapeake - Jerry August Pettersson, 72, passed away January 4, 2018, in Chesapeake, VA. He was born in Portsmouth, VA. and graduated from Deep Creek high school in 1963. Jerry worked for various national sales companies and was retired from a company he founded, August Sales. Jerry was also retired from the U. S. Army and the Virginia Army National Guard which he loved so much with a long and distinguished career, retiring as a Lt. Col. Air Defense Artillery. He commanded Portsmouth's own Historic Grimes Battery, and eventually commanded the 3rd Battalion, 111th ADA Portsmouth. Many friends who loved him, knew him as the "J Man". Jerry was an accomplished racquetball player and participated in various tournaments with included the Annual All-Military at the Greenbrier YMCA. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Herman Castles, Maj. US Army (Ret). Survivors include his daughter Stacey Stroud and 2 grandchildren of Chesapeake. It is requested that for those friends and former comrades-in-arms who wish to remember Jerry to do so with a random act of kindness in his honor. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 3:15 PM in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
