Rev. Dr. John H. Foster, was a man of vision and dedication. He held great love for his Lord Christ Jesus, his family, his church and his community. He was a humble man. Seen by me as engaged, thoughtful and accomplished, he crossed the street from his home built by the Norfolk Journal and Guide publisher PB Young Sr. to speak and check in on my beloved adopted grandmother Mrs. Gladys A Moseley-Whitfield and her sister Josephine Moseley-Young (PBs widow). He cared for the members of his neighborhood and his constituents. Surely he has stood before his Savior and heard the words, Well done thy good and faithful servant.

I wish to extend sympathies on behalf of the family of Will and Hattie Riddle in Knoxville, Tenn. in the passing of such a great person and spiritual leader. We met Rev. Foster while he was the minister at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Knoxville in the 60's.

Please accept my condolences. It was his support of the Tidewater Metro Baptist Layman's League that I knew Reverend Foster. His hand was always outstretched to assist us with anything we needed to do. Truly he will be missed but his example will shine on for always.

This is Rev. Dr. Foster's favorite hymn:
Keep on praying to God on high,
Keep on praying, He hears your cry;
God will answer the sincere heart,
Keep on praying, He will do His part.
Refrain
For Jesus hears you,
He’s list’ning, list’ning to your plea,
So keep on praying,
And He will answer thee.
Refrain
Keep on praying when bowed with sin,
Keep on praying and you will win;
Jesus suffered on Calvary,
Keep on praying, He will answer thee.
Refrain
Keep on praying, you’ll grow in grace,
Keep on praying and win the race;
Jesus loves you, His Word is true,
Keep on praying, He will answer you.
Refrain
Keep on praying, He’s ever near,
Keep on praying, ’twill banish fear;
“Thro’ the valley” He’ll walk with thee;
Guide thy footsteps to eternity.
Refrain
Keep on praying all through the strife,
Prayer will purchase a crown of life;
Heav’n is ringing with songs above;
Hallelujahs, for a Savior’s love!
Refrain

To Mrs. Foster and Family:
We send our sincere condolences. May God bless you and lift your hearts during the bereavement and celebration of life. When Reverend Foster first came to Shiloh, I was a child. For me, he was the first young pastor at Shiloh. It was not long before he was connecting with people and building relationships in the church and community. Looking back, I am amazed how he modeled the Christian life for us and how he shared his talents as a pastor, community leader, friend, and God’s disciple. Once I became an adult, I realized Reverend Foster was also a regular guy who enjoyed dating his wife and going to the CIAA basketball tournament. It was always a pleasure to see him and Mrs. Foster enjoying life together.

TO THE ENTIRE FOSTER FAMILY,
It is with a great deal of heartfelt sympathy that I am writing this. Dr.Foster was a true pacesetter in both the Christian and Education community. He truly lived his religious beliefs and fought just as hard for his education beliefs. He was always a first in so many arenas. He was always
a true gentle man and a loving family man. Education employees always knew where he stood on various issues. I remember receiving a call when his son, Laguna became a Principal. He was so proud and said "I know all of the EAN,VEA and NEA will keep an eye on him and we had a good laugh". I know the love, beautiful memories and your faith will help you through these difficult times. May the Lord continue to bless all of you.

It was a real joy to see the two of you together in Piccadiily's about three months ago after not seeing you all for over 10 years. May God bless,keep and comfort you as only He can. Peace and love.

Mrs. Foster, I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. He was one of the few ministers that attended the Area Missionary Council on a regular basis. He will truly be missed. I pray that in the days to come God will strengthen you and give you peace. Remember the many years that the two of you had together and may that ease some of the pain you are going through. Because I have lost a husband I know what you are going through. May God continue to bless you and keep you.
