John Lamond

John Barton Lamond VIRGINIA BEACH - Lt. Col. John Barton Lamond died peacefully at home March 7, 2008. John was born in Philadelphia on Nov. 10, 1916. He was the son of late John Drybrugh Lamond and Elsie Endebroch Lamond. He married his beloved wife Paddy Lamond on Feb. 5, 1944. John joined the Pennsylvania National Guard prior to World War II. He was a member of the US Army Corps of Engineers during the rest of his Army career. He served as the executive officer for the Engineering Staff - London during World War II and the post engineer for Walter Reed Medical Center from 1946 to1950 and from 1963 to 1966. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his outstanding service contributions. After retiring from the Army, John returned to school and obtained his B.A. from Old Dominion University. He then taught history and political science at Norfolk Academy. He attended Old Donation Episcopal Church and was a member of the Kiwanis and was a past President of the World Affairs Council. He is survived by his children, David Lamond of Edinburgh, Scotland, Bruce Lamond of Fairfax, Va., and Heather Grieshaber of Littleton, Colo., and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Old Donation Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. National Cremation Society is in charge.
