Joshua Bredlau Obituary

Joshua E. Bredlau HAYES - Joshua Enoch Bredlau, 20, passed away from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in the afternoon of Aug. 23, 2009. He was born Jan. 19, 1989. Josh was a beloved son to his parents, Kathy and Paul; a loved brother by his siblings, Justin, Jason and Melissa; a loving uncle to his niece, Kylie; a wonderful husband to his wife, Jen; a caring father to his stepson, Jordan; and a great friend to everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Raised in a Navy family, Josh moved around, spending time in Maine, Illinois and Virginia, where he ended up going to high school and received his diploma in Spring 2007. At this time, Josh enlisted in the United States Army to be a 68W - combat medic. He always wanted to help people and was aspiring to be a doctor. Josh did a combat tour in Iraq from Jan. 11, 2008 to Dec. 8, 2008, with the 3rd Infantry Division from Fort Stewart, Ga. During that time, he was promoted to the rank of specialist and was awarded the Combat Medic Badge for his actions on the battlefield. Upon returning from Iraq, Josh attended and graduated from Air Assault School and became Combatives Level 1 certified. During the summer of 2009, Josh reenlisted to go to Fort Myer in Arlington. Josh's military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. A service is being held for Joshua, family, and friends at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2101 Mark Pine Road, Hayes at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30. He will be laid to rest by a full military honors burial service in Arlington National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. In Josh's memory, donations may be sent to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 9, Bena, VA 23018. Arrangements by Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester Point.

When I came into our neighborhood yesterday after being away since July, I know something had happened to your family. With a heavy heart I have been searching to find out and am so very sad to learn of your loss. From one parent to another, your sorrow must be deep. I pray your heart will fill its pain with happy memories in the time ahead. He is with God now and you will see him again.

To the Bredlau Family:

Know that Joshua is in a better place. He made the sacrafice that many of us would not. John 15:13 "No one has greater love than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends." I appreciate the service that Joshua gave to his country and he will live forever amongst the heros.

Everytime I look up at the sky and see a break in the clouds where the sky is blue or the sun is shining brightest, I know you are there and it makes me smile. I miss you so much.

Even though I haven't seen your family in such a long time, my heart breaks for all of you. LT and I have such wonderful memories of the times our families spent together. Josh was about 10 the last we saw him, but I am not surprised to see what a wonderful young man he grew to be. I know you are all proud of what he accomplished in his life. Know that we love you!

Bredlau family,

I know there are no words to express how you must feel right now, but know that your Son will be remembered always, and missed tremendously. I am proud to have known him. And even more proud to have served with him. I look forward to meeting with him again some day.

Take care, and God Bless.

MR. and Mrs. Bredlau,

I had the distinct honor of having your son in my squad. He was a quick learner and dedicated Soldier. I'll never forget his upbeat atitude while we were in Iraq, it made my time and others much easier. He was also extremely dependable and loyal. Often he would go out of his way to do little things like picking up food for other soldiers, selfless tasks that made others feel better in that hard place. I will never forget your son, I think that the world is better because he was in it. I will continue to pray for him and and you and your family.

God speed

Josh was an amazing friend. He was always there for his family and friends. He was the kid who you could call at 2 in the morning crying because someone hurt your feelings. He would listen to everything we had to say. I will miss him dearly, for he was one of my closest friends. He helped me get through some very hard times in my life. I know he is watching us from above, and may he know that he will always be loved, and never forgotton. he will always hold a piece of our hearts.

I will forever be proud of Joshua and the young man my cousin became. That is something that only the proper nurturing and guidance from a wonderful family (mom, dad, brothers & sister) can guide. He accomplished so much in his 20 years. Continue to support and give strength to one another. Love you all.

I am saddened of your sudden loss! I do not know any of you but..It's men like your son, your brother, your uncle, your husband and your father that make it possible for people like myself to live in a free country where I can run my own business, make my own choices, and to be an independent woman!
Thank you for a man such as Joshua! I hope you will find comfort in your time of healing just knowing that there are strangers that care also.

I knew Josh from when he was working at Wendy's and I talked to him about the life he would lead in the Army. He was sure that it was the life he wanted to lead so he could help and safe his fellow army buddies. He was a fine young man and you should be very proud of him

My soul grieves over the loss of such a wonderful young man, soldier, uncle, brother, husband and father. I spent 20 weeks of my life living with Josh @ ft. Sam Houston. I have nothing but good memories of our times together. I was there when he was experiencing some of the best moments in his life. I remember standing in front of him talking to his mother over the phone about his hand. Just from his phone calls to her you could sense the tremendous amount of love and respect he had for her. I knew then why Bredlau as I called him was such a great guy. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. Spc. Richard Babb. New Orleans, LA
