Virginia Beach - Kevin W. Brooks, 46, passed away May 1, 2013
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the funeral home. Kevin, you left us 5 years ago today. I'm sad and tearful, but I remember all the good times we had working together and I am remembering your smile and your spirit today. Dear Sweet Kevin,
I know you can hear me and read my words. Death leaves so much pain, devastation and tears in its wake. I learned of your death last week on a shoot, the day after I learned of Russell Senatos motorcycle accident which left him without a leg and all of his teeth. The three of us have worked together for years. Now this. I am in shock over learning the fates of you both. My heart aches, and the tears keep coming. Kevin, you never knew how much I liked you. You had a special place in my heart that I never told you about. Now, that space has grown. You were always so kind and respectful to me on set and off. Being a female sound person isn't easy and you treated me like I was "one of the guys". How cool is that?
There will always be an empty place on set where you should have been. That is how it will be from now on. I don't know how to get over losing you. I don't think I can. I just have to go on. You will always be loved, and you will always be missed. You left us too soon, Kevin.
I hope you feel my love and the pain of losing you, on the other side. We will meet up again someday. Until then, Rest In Peace...... and save a place for me.

I always enjoyed having Kevin on set. He was the kind of guy I could go to in a pinch. Whenever I'd ask him for something he'd reply "copy that" - I'll forever associate that phrase with him. I'll miss seeing his smiling face on the next project! Kevin - I know you're in a better place but we'll miss you here!

Kevin Brooks you will be missed. You talk to me for three hours on the phone before I left for Costa Rica in February. I had not seen you in seven years. You were so stoked we were going and talked constantly telling me all the cool thing to Do. You talked about your upcoming trip with your kids. Then we met up at the last leg of our trip. You were so stoked to see us and many stories were told. You made our trip. I am honored to have known you. You were taken for a reason I will never know til we meet on the other side. RIP here and I know you have already brightened up the other side with your stories and laughter. My heart goes out to your boys and family and penny and the hundreds of friends that have lost you. I was one of the lucky ones to grow up with Kevin in Kings Grant...played on teams with him, hung out at the famous baseball field, and rode bikes to the beach starting at the age of 12. Mrs. Brooks, Mike & Richard...you must have just trusted us! Man could Kevin make people laugh. Everyone wanted to be around him...and he lit up the room wherever he went. He talked about his dad a lot when we were younger...while his boys figure out this world without Kevin in the years ahead (with our help), he's finally with his Father(s) in heaven. We miss you brother.

I was lucky to grow up on Berkley Place and the Brooks' clan is family. I had moved away, was visiting Mrs. B, Kevin called and even though we hadn't seen each other in over 10 years, he talked with me as if no time had passed. He was quick to talk with excitement about work and pride of his boys. I can hear your laugh and know you will ride high on eagles wings.

I only knew kevin for about four years, but I always called him my brother, whenever we would wrap the days work and saying our good bys I would tell him that I loved him, because I did! I am so glad that God put Kevin in my life, and for all the talks we had about God. Kevin is in heaven ,make no mistake about it.

I immediately pictured Kevin on a skateboard rolling down Oxford Lane. No matter the day or whatever the time, an ecounter with Kevin always left you smiling and feeling a lil' bit better about yourself~ and the world!

Kevin was my next door neighbor and best friend growing up. Actually the first friend I made moving to VB. As we grew older and I moved away we didn't talk nearly enough, but if we ran in to each other, it was as if we were still those kids growing up in Kings Grant. He will be missed but never forgotten. I worked with Kevin at NDP - he lined up the grip/electric work for some of my shows & pick-up shoots. I'll always remember that great smile & upbeat attitude. About 10 years ago he was telling me & my officemate about taking his son snowboarding & how his little guy ollied right out the gate.
