Laurie Clifford Obituary

Laurie Amanda Lanman Clifford

Virginia Beach -

Laurie Amanda Lanman Clifford died peacefully among family and friends on March 24, 2015, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Known by the many who loved her by too many names, but most commonly as "Amanda," she was born January 29, 1974, in Waterville, Maine. She graduated from Waterville Senior High School and later from Hartwick College, from which she earned a BA in Sociology. In 1999, she settled in Virginia's Tidewater region, where she held several diverse jobs. They included social service positions, in which she helped low-income residents of the area find employment and become self-sufficient. Most recently, she and her beloved husband ran a successful barbeque business, which gave her a platform to demonstrate her exceptional culinary and people skills. Amanda loved watching sports and cheered loudly and proudly for all of her son's teams. A student of the game of football, she was also passionate about her hometown New England Patriots. Amanda experienced serious health challenges and showed remarkable courage, which left family, friends, and colleagues humbled and inspired. Despite these challenges-or perhaps because of them-Amanda remained remarkably optimistic, positive, generous, and kind.

She was predeceased by her first husband Kevin Kluzak, father of her surviving son Caleb Kluzak. Survivors also include: husband Michael Clifford; stepdaughter Madelen Falardeau; grandmother Alice Warren; father David Lanman; mother and stepfather Barbara and Jimmie Woodlee; sister Amy Bouchard and her husband Shane Bouchard; sister Rachel Brown and her husband Craig Brown; brother Will Woodlee and his wife Rebecca Gilliam; sister-in-law Karren Ellis and her husband John Ellis; sister-in-law Kim Clifford; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members, including relatives of her first husband.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on March 28 at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 1969 Woodside Lane, Virginia Beach, Virginia. The family requests that, in lieu of sending flowers, those wishing to honor Amanda's memory donate to the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation by visiting www.aamds.org/forms/make-donation. Amanda was a joy to work with and so very very good at what she did in connecting with and helping low income families find work and balance. I haven't seen or worked with Amanda in many years, but she stands out in memory as one of a kind. She will be missed.
