Lawrence Perse Obituary
Larry was a lifelong sports enthusiast in general, and a diehard Giants, Yankees, Rangers and Knicks fan specifically. Even while living in the Cleveland area, he was always wearing his beloved Yankees cap. He was a jazz afficionado, playing the drums throughout his life, and it was this love and knowledge of jazz that was responsible for so many of the friendships he developed. Larry was a proud member of The Friars Club, as well as a frequent patron of various jazz clubs and storied watering holes around the city.
Larry had the good fortune to be surrounded by kind and loving people who cared deeply for him. He was nervous about moving to Ohio in 2018, but quickly became friends with people who felt like family. He acclimated easily because of these dear people, who made his end of life difficulties so much easier to navigate.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife Judy, 2007. He is survived by son John (Reeva) of Cleveland Heights, OH, his daughter Toby Lagarde (Doug) of Severna Park, MD, and his grandchildren Matt Perse of Asheville, NC, Will Lagarde (Becca) of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Katie Perse (Joe Echt) of Cleveland Heights, OH. Larry also leaves behind his many friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave, Norfolk, VA on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

We were abroad, and just found out about Larry´s passing. I was an employee of Capitol Motion Picture Supply Corporation. After the company closed, we kept in touch and spoke on a regular basis our last conversation was on his birthday 2023. I will miss him but his memories will remain. My condolence to the entire family.

I met Larry at the Friars Club many years ago. He was a gentleman and you felt his love for music. Being a full time musician he was always so complimentary to me and many other performers on our Thursday night jam. And to the Perse family I send my condolences.

Dear Family,
I met Larry shortly after he moved to Cleveland Heights at Nighttown restaurant. Although nearly 30 years my senior, upon meeting, we immediately connected and became close friends. Over the ensuing years, we'd get together frequently, enjoy a fine dinner, and imbibe in a few cocktails. I relished our conversations, his friendship, and his stories. Larry made people feel special and he had many dear friends including my son, Justin. I will miss him.
