Leo Babb Obituary

Leo D. Babb VIRGINIA BEACH - Leo D. Babb, 93, died June 5, 2011 at Sentara-Windermere. Until his illness he resided at Atlantic Shores retirement community. Prior to that he was a longtime resident of Birdneck Point. He was born in Norfolk, Oct. 27, 1917, the son of the late Fannie Jo and Harvey J. Babb and was also preceded in death by siblings, Lolace W. Gallup, Annie Shaw, Robert Babb and Harvey Babb. Major Babb was retired from the U.S. Army and he had tours of duty in Japan, Korea and the Philippines with the 11th and 82nd Airborne divisions, the 87th Regimental Combat Team and in Orleans, France with ComZ headquarters. After retiring from the military he was employed by civil service in Korea and Hawaii. When he was in Japan he met Suzanne and they where married in January of 1955 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. They where married for 56 years. Survivors include his close nieces and nephews, Allie S. Gallup (Betty Lloyd) of Virginia Beach, Joan G. Brinkley (Warren) of Beaufort, N.C., Ann G. Williams, Carrsville, Va., Dan Gallup (Thelma) of Virginia Beach, James Babb of Landers, Calif., and Donald Shaw of Newport Ore., Beverly Davin and (Tom) of Waverly, Va., Lois Wyatt (Buddy) of Elberon, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Dennis G. Watson (Margaret) of Bloomington, Ill., and Tee V. Watson of Winnetka, Ill.; and many more great- nieces, nephews and special friends, Dianne Frantz, Jim Crocker and Grady Reese. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at Star of the Sea Catholic Church by Father Esteban DeLeon. Burial will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Atlantic Shores employees fund, Star of the Sea building fund or to a charity of choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
