Malcolm Gutterman Obituary

Malcolm ("Mal") Bruce Gutterman, 84, passed away peacefully on January 21, surrounded by his loving family. Mal was born to Norman and Rose Silver Gutterman in Norfolk, Virginia.

Mal attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Maury High School. Mal successfully ran Gutterman Iron and Metal throughout his adulthood and then retired in his home in Virginia Beach.

Nothing was more important to Mal than family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and cousin. Mal's kindness, warmth, humor, genuineness were felt by everyone he met. In addition to his dedication to family, Mal loved golf, watching football, and was an avid coin collector.

Survivors besides Maida and Stacey (Brad Lerner) include his grandchildren, Silver and Locke and siblings, Robert Gutterman (Audrey), Elayne Litman (Jeff Litman) and Herbert Gutterman (Carol).

Mal's graveside service will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery (8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23505) on Wednesday, January 24 at 1:00pm. For those unable to attend the service, it will be livestreamed on the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Facebook page. (www.facebook.com/hdoliverfuneralapts)

My condolences to Maida, Elayne,Robert,& Herbert. Every once in awhile,I look to see what I may find on google search or facebook about people who were important in my life years earlier that I haven't kept in touch with for many years.
Your family was one of them. I used to stop by to say hi,until I saw that the business was sold.
I was so sorry to see that Malcolm had passed. I watched the service online. His son in law & Rabbi, so perfectly described what I felt about Malcolm & his family as I knew & experienced them at a very young adult age, while working at Gutterman's. I was blessed to have experienced their kindness & laughter including Rose!
Again,Malcolm was funny & kind & I hope he didn't suffer greatly in his last 2 yrs of whatever illness he had.
I've been married this 2nd time for 35 yrs & raised 5 boys. I'm on facebook if any of you would like to private message & say hi,I would love it.
Maida,I hope you have been able to find God's comfort in your periods of grief & see Malcolm's smile & love for you. It's still there for you to embrace the feeling.
To his siblings, I believe your closeness & support of each other will bring you comfort & God will grant you peace.
