Margaret Gummo Obituary

Margaret "Margie" Gummo, age 75, passed away suddenly on February 18th, 2023 in Virginia Beach, VA. She peacefully took her last breath with her children holding her hands until the very end.

Margie was born on April 27th, 1947 in Newport News, Virginia to Frederick and Gloria Springman. She was a member of the Hampton High School class of 1965 before earning a bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland.

Margie lived her life in Hampton Roads to the fullest. She frequently attended local sports games, concerts, shows, and anything else that piqued her interest. One of her favorite hobbies, however, was creative writing. She used her intelligence and resourcefulness to maintain several jobs, often simultaneously, to support her family. She cherished her children so much that she kept their artwork, cards, and keepsakes of sentimental value lovingly stored away. Margie always saw the best in people and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her smile, sense of humor, and knack for finding the best deal on anything you can possibly think of will be terribly missed.

Margie is survived by her 4 children: Michael, Mark, Matthew, and Melissa, her sisters Patricia and Theresa, and her many beloved nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. A small ceremony, attended by family and close friends, was held on Saturday, February 25th at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

I have so.mamy.memories of Margie. I remember the time that somebody attacked me, and it was Margie who drove me to the doctor's office One time, I had to go to Court but i had no car. Margie drove me to Court. When I flew back to Virginia from CalifotnIa, Margaret met me at the airport but the airline lost my wheel-chair. Margaret drove me back to the airport the next day to get my wheelchair When I had to take the road test to get my driver's license, Margie let me drive her car in order to get a driver's license. I saw her for the last time on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 7, 2023 in front of her house. We spoke for a while, and then I watched her walk back Into her house before I drove off. We were close friends for 25 years, and my friendship with Margaret was the greatest experience of my life. She was my best friend.
