Marie Terveer Obituary

Marie E Terveer

Virginia Beach - Marie Elizabeth Terveer, 78, left this world to join our Heavenly Father and her predeceased loved ones early on the morning of August 11, 2015. All of her five children, (Steve, Annie, Bernie, Philip and Mark) along with several of her grandchildren were present at the Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach at the time of her passing. Marie began her eternal journey peaceful and free from the incredible pain she had endured for many years after her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. She faced this challenge with the faith, hope and love we all came to cherish in her courageous crusade to exemplify how to transition from this world on to the next.

Marie was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 24, 1937 to the late Claire Bellinger and Dorothy Brimeyer. "Doll", as she was fondly called by her family and friends during her youth, was raised as a quintessential Indiana farm girl on the farmsteads of her aunts and uncles. Marie attended Concordia High School and later graduated from Northside High School in Fort Wayne. She was also predeceased by her late husband, Philip J. Terveer, Sr., her step-father, Roy Brimeyer, her sister Shirley Bellinger and her granddaughter, Camille Baruch.

Marie and Phil raised their family in Virginia Beach, where she was deeply involved as a dedicated and loving mother for her five children. She served as the Secretary and President of the Virginia Beach Junior Women's Club, the Secretary of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach and as Chair of the local March of Dimes Campaign. Marie and Phil were also founding members of the Church of the Holy Family. After a brief stay on the island of Kauai, they retired to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where Marie worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Outer Banks Catholic Parish. In February 2014 Marie moved to Atlantic Shores in Virginia Beach to facilitate her medical care and to be close to her family and friends.

Left behind to carry on Marie's indomitable spirit for living and life are her son Stephen Terveer (Paula), daughter Annette Baruch (Steven), son Bernard Terveer (Lynne), son Philip J. Terveer, Jr. (Cara), son Mark and "adopted" son Philip Ancell. Marie especially loved and cared for her surviving grandchildren: Joshua Terveer, Jordan Terveer, Jessica Baruch, Nathan Baruch, Keely Anderson, Tucker Terveer, Zachary Terveer, Caitlin Terveer, and the apple of her eye, Amanda Terveer.

Marie's family wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude to her numerous caregivers over the past three years, namely Virginia Oncology Associates, the staff and employees at Atlantic Shores, the second floor staff and nurses of the Oncology Wing at Sentara Virginia Beach General, and the extremely empathic staff at the Sentara Hospice House.

A viewing will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach on Friday August 14, 2015 from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at The Church of the Holy Family at 11:00 AM with internment at Princess Anne Memorial Park following Mass. Afterwards, all are invited to attend a reception celebrating Marie's life journey back at Holy Family at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations honoring Marie's life may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, the Food Bank of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, or to the Church of the Holy Family.

Marie was the sweetest woman on earth. She was kind to me. I'm so grateful that she took my best friend, Phil Ancell, into her heart, family, and home. You are a wonderful person, Marie, I will miss you.

Steve, Paula and Family,

Sending my deepest condolences and prayers for your hearts to find peace during this difficult time. I hope that you find hope in knowing that your beloved mother is now celebrating with your father and watching over your entire clan. I was very fond of your mother, I was very sad to hear of her diagnosis and struggles. Much love to you all.

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."

Marie, we will miss your smile, loving way and your Indiana visits. To us you are "Doll", a childhood name that family of your mother called you. Our thoughts and prayer go to your children and their children , who you always so lovingly told us about. Peace be with you, we know you will enjoy Heaven seeing your Lord and family member there. Love
