Marilyn (Lyn) Anne (Twomey) Thearle, 86, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023 in
Fremont, CA, surrounded by her family. She was born April 4, 1937 and raised on the point in
Newport, RI, to Cornelius Russell and Elsie Bacheller Twomey. She was a graduate of Rogers High School, class of 1954.Newport was where she met her husband, WIlliam James Thearle and the start of their wonderful lives together.
Lyn was a devoted wife and mother to her five children. One to never shy away from an adventure, she lovingly supported her husband, retired Capt., USN William J. Thearle, throughout his 35 year military career, moving countless times throughout the country. During the 35 years, Lyn wore many hats; mother, chef, coach, tutor, decorator, dress maker, story teller, family matriarch, charity organizer, vacation planner, nurse, moral support, and last but not least, entertainer; she was an incredible entertainer. She hosted military gatherings, junior league functions, family celebrations, all of the holidays, as well as weddings, in their beautiful home in
Norfolk, Virginia. These were memories to last a lifetime for her. Upon her husband's retirement they decided to stay and settle in
Norfolk, VA. One of her first true loves, real estate, took her to a second career. With the same tenacity that she showed to her family the past 35+ years, she threw herself back into the business of real estate. She thrived in the real estate world, working her way from the bottom up, culminating in 20+ years as a Relocation Director for several large firms. She loved her world of work and the family was proud to see her succeed.
After Lyn's second career she was ready for her third and final one, full time Nana Lyn. She and Jim went to
Fremont, CA to live with her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Anthony. They would travel around the country from time to time to visit their six grandkids; Gabriela, Max, Gabriel,Adison, Sadie and Mason. Jennifer and Anthony's children, Sadie and Mason, were blessed with having Nana live with them,creating wonderful memories that they will cherish for a lifetime.
Lyn was preceded in death by her best friend and loving husband, Capt., USN, William James Thearle of 53 years and her wonderful daughter Suzanne Thearle-Walker. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Thearle-Miller and husband Robert N. Miller, MD,CDR,MC,USN (Ret), son retired Chief Petty Officer, USCG Charles James Thearle, son retired CWO4, USCG Marc C. Thearle and wife Courtney Thearle, daughter Jennifer L. Thearle and husband Anthony Cotten.
Private services will be held August 1, 2023 at the Naval Academy Columbarium, Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions to be made to the following charities.
