Virginia Beach - Mary Economou Papadopoulos, 85, fell asleep in the Lord on January 4, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hartford, CT to her late parents, Evangelos and Fani Economou of Limnos and Poros, Greece. She was a devoted wife and mother for 57 years to the love of her life, Jimmy, and her three loving children.

Mary is survived by her children, Harriet, Steve and Marina, and Gregory; her grandchildren, Alexis, Dimitri and Zoe; along with her many nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Josephine Economou and her sister, Katherine Manuel. As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother she served her family tirelessly and unconditionally. She worked alongside her husband for many years at their business establishment, Jimmy's Pizza House. Her vibrant and exuberant personality lit any room she walked into. She had a passion for art and took many classes. Her colorful and creative works of art expressed her love of life and of God's creation. She was an avid reader of many interests particularly the daily scriptures and prayed unceasingly.

Mary was a devout Orthodox Christian. As a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served in her beloved church choir for many years. She used her astounding mezzo-soprano voice as an offering to the Lord as she would sing hymns of worship. We will always cherish the memories of her beautiful voice, her laughter and her loving and faithful presence. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Trisagion service will be held on Tuesday, January 6th at 7:00 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 7220 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA.
