Matt Bednar Obituary
Virginia Beach - Matthew Bednar, 55, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on 27 October 2013.
The funeral service will be held at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St, Binghamton, NY at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday 6 November 2013. Visitation will be held at the Laskowski Funeral Home, 367 Prospect St, Binghamton, NY from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday 5 November.
Matt was born in Johnson City, NY on June 20, 1958. He graduated from Johnson City High School, was a member of the golf team and attended Broome Community College.
Matt worked in the restaurant industry for several years, in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and most recently Florida. Many of his former co-workers have called him a mentor that taught them valuable lessons in the workplace. He was an avid golfer, bowler, cigar aficionado and loved most sports. He was a loyal son, brother, uncle and friend.
Matt is survived by his mother Jane M. Bednar of Johnson City, NY, companion Maida Jasper of Florida, brother Colonel Mark Bednar (USAF) and family of Honolulu,Hawaii, sister Marie Bednar of Virginia Beach and brother Mike Bednar of Virginia Beach.
Matt is preceded in death by his father, Peter M. Bednar, his paternal grandparents, Mary and Peter Bednar and his maternal grandparents John and Mary Laskowski.
He will be dearly missed.

My symphaties, late but sincere, to the whole Bednar family for their loss. I was in touch with Matt over email recently only for a short while but felt like I already knew him! My husband Steve and I send him Love in his journey and we send courage, Love and Peace to all who loved him so and are grieving his departure.

I'll never forget the first day meeting Matt...Friday afternoon, applebees parking lot, us both getting ready for the fun of second shift. This only being my second day at applebees I was doubting myself making it as it was such a fast paced atmosphere and everyone seemed like family so i figured favoritism would also seal my fate. Matt looked at me as we entered through the back and asked " you all right"? I explained myself and before I could finish Matt gave me the pep talk of a life time! Friends immediately! I went on to work there for 3 years with Matt as manager! So many great memories! To think that Friday was 12 yrs ago! Wow how time flys! Well Matt, all I can say is save me a seat buddy.! Oh yeah and save me some grand Marne a! See you when I arrive!

I worked with Matt at one of the oceanfront hotels in Virginia Beach probably back in the early 80's. I have thought about him off and on throughout the years. I remember him as always smiling, jovial, always had a joke to tell. I am so sorry for your loss.

Jane, All your family and Madia...Matt was one of the best "absentee" friends I've ever had. Met him in politics, running for Trustee together, and we became long lasting friends although separated for most of the last 33 years. Rest in Peace in God's arms forever, my good friend.
