Mazer Bradley
Portsmouth - Mazer N. Sessoms Bradley, 73, of Portsmouth, Va. went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2011. She was born on March 17, 1937 in Ahoskie, N.C. to the late Sidney J. Sessoms and Annie B. Sessoms. She was the wife of the late George Bradley. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Gary Sessoms.

Mazer attended Portsmouth Public Schools and graduated from I.C. Norcom in 1956. After high school, she joined the U.S. Army and served from 1962 until 1967. She relocated to Washington D.C. where she attended Howard University and began working for the Federal Government. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Tacoma Park, Md. While living in the Metropolitan area, aside from her career, she spear headed many workshops on how to become an entrepreneur. She owned two businesses: Country Kitchen Restaurant and a dating service. She was very active in her community. She volunteered with the elderly at Providence Hospital, for six years she worked with the Literacy Association, teaching adults one on one to read and she was a docent with the Smithsonian America Art Gallery. She was passionate about helping others.

She relocated back to Virginia in 2007, where she attended Community Fellowship of Deliverance Church and was a member of the Chit Chat Group at Harbor Tower Apartments.

She is survived by two brothers: Sidney Sessoms (Margaret) of Salisbury, Md.; Ray Sessoms of Portsmouth, Va.; three sisters: Annie Bashay (Harold) of Portsmouth, Va.; Ida Watts of Radcliff, KY and Peggy A. Bell (Albert) of Chesapeake, Va.; a stepson, Judson Bradley of Florida and a stepdaughter, Tracey Bradley Devaughan of Washington, D.C. She is survived by one aunt, Vernice Slade of Hampton, Va. and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many devoted friends.

A homegoing celebration will be on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the chapel of Corprew Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Va. Family and friends are invited to a reception at JEM Banquet Facility, 1504 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, directly after the service.
