Michael Xystros Obituary

Michael S. Xystros

Virginia Beach - Michael S. Xystros beloved husband, father, papou and brother, Michael S. Xystros died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 2, 2015 at the age of 89.

Mike is survived by his wife of 55 years, Titsa, his sons Stelios and Christos, his daughter in law Cheryl, his grandchildren Anna, Emily and Michael Xystros; his brother Angelos Xystros of Brisbane, Australia and his sister Maroula Charalambides of Limassol, Cyprus, as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins across the world.

Mike was born in 1926 in Kambos, Cyprus to Stelios and Eleni Xystros. He married Titsa in 1960 and together they established a beautiful home and family in Morphou, Cyprus. He built a successful wholesale distribution business with his brother Angelos. In 1974, with the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, he lost his home and his business. He immigrated to the United States with his family as refugees in 1975, and at the age of 49, he started over. He and his brother in-law Paul Kyriakides, with the generous support of his brother-in-law Tommy Kyrus, established and operated a restaurant, The HoneyBee Pancake House at the Virginia Beach oceanfront until he retired in 2001. Through his steady leadership, strong business acumen and hard work he was able to provide a wonderful life for his wife and family. His grandchildren, who he loved with a quiet strength, will remember him as kind, patient and wise, always ready with a good story or a valuable piece of advice.

Mike was an individual who was passionate about his family and his Greek heritage. He was an active and dedicated member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk.

A Trisagion service and visitation will be held at 4pm at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia on December 6, 2015. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, December 7, 2015 at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 7220 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia, followed by interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org, or to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Norfolk, VA.
