Mildred Darena Thornton

Mildred Darena Thornton, 76, passed away on November 9, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on July 4th 1945. Mildred graduated from Cardozo High School in D.C. and later attended Bronx Community College in New York where she resided for 15 years. She was employed with Allied Professional Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and also worked for Harris Publishing. Mildred was a member of Mt. Zion Interdenominational Christian Community Church which later transitioned to Welcome Temple Community Church. She is predeceased by her parents, Jessie R. McCray and Jesse Bowe. She is also predeceased by her grandmother, Rosella Telfair Watson. Mildred is survived by her husband, Gene E. Thornton Sr.; one daughter, Detra Ann Littlejohn; three sons, Charles McLean, Gene Thornton Jr. (wife, Tonya Thornton) and Terrence L. Thornton (wife, Virginia Thornton); fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A Homegoing Service will be held, 1:00pm, Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. Norfolk, VA 23505, Pastor Gregory Chapman Sr., Presiding.
