Norfolk - Mitch Alberts of Norfolk, Va passed away on August 28 in Fernandina Beach, FL. Mitch was born in Wareham, MA. to Richard S. and Virginia P. Alberts. He grew up in Woods Hole where he attended local schools. As a result of his love of the sea, he joined both the SeaScouts and Navy ROTC. After two years service in the Navy, he began a long career as a boat builder and marine engineer. Inspired by his father, Mitch began work at Concordia Yachts building their famous wooden vessels before moving on to restore classic wooden boats from Mystic to Boston. Mitch was proud of the time he spent helping to finish building "Spirit of Massachusetts" and serving as Engineer on her maiden voyages. He next used his skills on board schooner"Alexandria". During a refit in Norfolk is when he met his future wife, Ginny White, also a sailor. Married in 1990 they enjoyed cruising the Chesapeake Bay and sailing to New England. On shore Mitch operated as Mañana Marine working on private vessels. In 2001 they moved ashore and he restored their 1939 beach cottage using his carpentry skills.As wells his steady and unique devotion to family, Mitch will be remembered as a dear brother, father and husband on a quest to learn about life by 'looking at the details'.From his early interest in train models to performance cars,intricate boat riggings,fine carpentry, researching/restoring minature steam engines and lastly his love of gardening: Mitch was always looking for answers.

Mitch leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Ginny, Norfolk; his first wife, Patricia Morro, S. Dartmouth, MA; his daughter, Cristine Correia, Pt.St.Lucie,FL; his son Ian,Plymouth, MA.; his two brothers: Jeffery, Orleans,MA; Jonathan,Chatham,MA; three sisters :Maryann,Ipswich,MA, Virginia, Orleans,MA.; Heather Roger, Westminister, MA; four grand children: Tyler and Bethany Correia, Pt.St.Lucie,FL; Evan and Madison Alberts, Plymouth, MA; nieces/nephews: Ben Malarky, Ipswich, MA, Erina Malarky, Seattle,WA; Beth and Nick Roger Westminister, MA and one great granddaughter; Kynlee Correia, Pt.St.Lucie,FL. A service and internment will be held in Woods Hole,MA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to American Heart Association or Tidewater Cancer Society.
