Natalie Taylor Obituary

Natalie Ashton Taylor of Virginia Beach, VA passed away on January 18, 2022. Originally from Oyster Bay, New York, she was born to Dorothy Fensterer Edelstein and Rea Russell Ashton on August 9, 1939, in Glen Cove, NY. She was predeceased by her parents and her stepfather, Leonard Edelstein. She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles F. Taylor, her sons Christopher and Jeffrey (Kelly) as well as her grandchildren, Ashton and Elise.

Natalie graduated from Granby High School in 1957 and graduated from Richmond Professional Institute, now known as Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in sociology in 1961. She worked as a social worker for the cities of Richmond, Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

Natalie dated Chuck at Granby and a few years later when he found out that she had moved back to Virginia Beach, he asked her out and they were married for 55 years! They moved to Willoughby Spit just before their first son was born and spent 43 years there filled with weekend fishing trips, sunset walks on the beach, crab picking, gardening, many amazing meals and beach parties.

Natalie was a loving mother and devoted wife, loved entertaining and was an avid cook. During her time in RPI, she loved listening to Miles Davis and Nina Simone. Later she developed a love for opera and was a long-time season ticket holder at the Virginia Opera. She also spent many years volunteering with Lee's Friends. Natalie was also a long-time member of the Church of the Advent.

The family will receive friends at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach 23462 on Monday, January 24 from 5-7 p.m. and funeral services and a reception will be held on Wednesday, January 26 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Advent in Norfolk, VA.

In lieu of flowers, Natalie's family is requesting that donations be made to Lee's Friends leesfriends.org.
