Patsy McLeod Obituary
Patsy M. McLeod
Black Mountain, NC - Patsy McDaniel McLeod, of Highland Farms in Black Mountain, NC, joined the church triumphant on July 15,2014, leaving a loving family and a wide circle of friends to grieve her passing, but to remember with gladness the life she lived. Born May 12, 1931, the only child of James H. and Patsy McDaniel, she grew up in Atlanta. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA, where she met Edward A. McLeod, a student at Union Theological Seminary. They married in 1954, and began a life devoted to raising a family and sharing a ministry, until his passing in 1998.
Their life's journey took them to Morven, NC, Lawrenceburg, TN, Newport News, VA and Virginia Beach, VA, and at every point along the way, Patsy endeared herself to the congregations her husband served. Her serene and gentle spirit put people at ease, her warmth enveloped those around her. When retirement took them to Black Mountain, a new circle of friends was formed, adding to those who will cherish her memory.
A generation of children at the Robert E. Lee Elementary School in Hampton, VA, and then at the Kings Grant Elementary School in Virginia Beach, VA, were blessed to have this kind-hearted soul as their kindergarten teacher. She loved children and they loved her.
Grateful for the gift of her unconditional love are her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchild: Leslie A. McLeod of Belmont, NC; Edward A. McLeod, Jr. and his wife Jenny, of Raleigh, James A. McLeod of Belmont, NC; and Karen M. Kramer of Greenville, SC; grandchildren Randall A. McLeod and his wife Luci, of Silver Spring, MD; Amy D. McLeod of Raleigh, NC; and Evan and Dawson Kramer of Greenville, SC; and great-grandson Bruce R. McLeod of Silver Spring, MD, all count themselves richly blessed.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2 pm, with a time of fellowship and greeting to follow. Interment will take place at a later date at the Old Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen, NC.
Patsy would be humbled and honored by memorial gifts made to Union Presbyterian Seminary (the Sara P. Little Chair of Christian Education), or to the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, Black Mountain, NC, the First Presbyterian Church of Belmont, NC, or the First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, NC.
