Paul William Raper passed away on August 9, 2019 at the age of 86. He was the son of Paul Spence Raper and Mary Leyburn Raper, both deceased. Paul is survived by his brother, Robert E. Raper (Marie); nephews Randolph DuVall (Leslie) and Rob Raper (Terese); nieces Yardley Kush (Ted), Barclay Eley (Kent), Ashley Starr (Todd); and 9 great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Paul's life will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 6:00 P.M., Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr., VA Beach. Reception following.

I will always remember this amazing gentleman who gave selflessly of himself to so many. His wonderful voice brought stories to life for the students of St. Pius. Although it became very difficult fo him to walk the long halls of the school, he remained ever faithful in carrying out countless hours of volunteer storytelling to classes. They loved him as we all did. He made us smile with his great sense of humor. It was an honor to have his presence at the school. You will forever have a special place in our hearts.

Paul was a good man. I was happy to take him to the doctor when he asked, as well as driving him to schools where he was reading to the little children. I was happy to listen to the stories he read, and recommended books my own daughter had enjoyed. Bless him and his life.
