Pauline Eccles Obituary

Pauline K. Eccles

Virginia Beach -

Pauline Kaelin Eccles passed away on June 23, 2015.

She was born on January 24, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was one of seven children who grew up on a small farm right next to their beloved parish, St. Agnus. She graduated from Presentation Academy and went to work at St. Joseph's Hospital. There she was known for her sense of humor and bowling skills, not to mention her strong work ethic. She met her husband, Jerry Eccles at a poker party. Both felt they had won the pot that night! They raised four children to work hard and cherish life. Even though she lost Jerry in 1987 she went on to live a life centered on generosity and faith. She worked in the Meals On Wheels organization and facilitated the Emotions Anonymous Meetings for years. She was known for driving her friends to doctor appointments, concerts, or to the grocery store. She was a faithful member of St Gregory the Great Church and was very involved in her home church community. She loved to visit old friends and family members and was always in contact with them via the phone or written letter.

Pauline believed that the earth was a gift from God and was a good steward of all the beautiful nature around us. She was thrifty, good at cards and scrabble, and loved to watch a good old classic movie. She never missed watching the Kentucky Derby and was always a contender in the family March Madness pool.

She took pride in her four children and their spouses, John and AJ, Billy and Kathy, Marie and Wayne, and David and Brenda. And of course she beamed with pure joy whenever she spoke of her eight grandchildren, their spouses, and nine great grandchildren. She fought the cancer in her on her own terms and taught all of us how to die with grace, dignity, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, giving, faith, and laughter. She will be forever in our hearts.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by Rev. Fr. Cristiano Brito. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Hollomon-Brown, Bayside Chapel. Donations can be made in Pauline's memory to the Xavarian Brothers Orphanage, Maison Fortune located in Haiti, www.mfofoundation.org Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com

To all of the children of Pauline and Jerry, please accept my deepest condolences in the passing of your mom. Many, many years ago, I was your neighbor on Priscilla Lane, and when I was young and you were younger, I was your babysitter. I haven't seen any of you, or even your parents, since we all grew up and moved away, but I have very fond memories of your mom and dad. I am so sorry for your loss, hope all of you are doing well, and pray for the Lord to bring you comfort during these days.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. As I read about your mom it is evident you have followed in her footsteps with kindness, grace, and humility. To enjoy a lifetime with such a beautiful mother is such a blessing! May you take comfort in the memories you have shared with your mom and your family - and know God's plan has been fulfilled.
Pat, Jillian, and I offer our sympathy and prayers to you, Wayne, Ben, and Danielle. I am sorry to be so far away, my friend. Feel the love. Be at peace.

What a blessing God has bestowed to allow me to be a part of the Eccles family. And, Pauline was a pillar there - always welcoming and gracious, one of the kindest and most generous people I've ever met and her entire family follows that tradition. She will be missed and I am so grateful God led me in her and the Eccles' family direction so many years ago. I am a better man for just knowing her and becoming a member of the Eccles clan. God bless and keep all of you and the loss of Pauline is a call for all of us to continue our faith in the Lord, Jesus - and remember that family is so important and should be kept in the forefront of all our thoughts and prayers. She is responsible for a great many wonderful folks to continue built from her life's work and I am sure all her children and children's children will continue upon that base. Now, she and Jerry and the rest of her family members are rejoicing with Jesus for sure. It brings a smile to my face with happy tears from my eyes. I write these words with love in my heart.
