Philip Caruana Obituary

Philip J. Caruana

Virginia Beach - Philip J. Caruana, 68, of Virginia Beach passed away in his residence on January 30, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the son of the late Angelo J. Caruana and Rose Perrini.

Phil moved to Virginia Beach in 1967 while serving his country in the US Navy. He was a well respected and awarded Realtor for over 20 years. As President of Caruana Custom Homes Corp. Phil built an outstanding reputation as a quality custom home builder. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed designing homes for his clients. Both in business and his personal life he lived by his Fathers motto, "Do the Right Thing". He was a devoted husband and father and a very special friend to many. His wonderful sense of humor and story telling antics were always a cause for great laughter. Phil had a passion for good food and motorcycle riding. He was a wonderful host and loved to enjoy sharing great meals with family and friends. Phil loved those days that called for Harley riding on the open road with his buddies.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan K. Caruana, a daughter, Ashley R. Caruana of Perth Australia, a son, Philip J. Caruana, Jr. of Virginia Beach, a sister, Maria "Ree" Caruana White of Virginia Beach and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and riding buddies.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 by Father Rob J Cole at Princess Anne Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 PM at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church of Princess Anne, 2228 Princess Anne Road, VB, VA, 23456, officiated by Pastor Libby Rollins.

So very sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Phil from his business as a builder and as a customer at Checkered Flag. He was a good man.

We go through life so often not stopping to enjoy the day and we take each one for granted as we travel on our way. For in your pain and sorrow an Angel's kiss will help you through, this kiss is very private for it is meant for only you. We never stop to measure anything we just might miss but if the wind should blow by softly you'll feel that Angel's kiss. A kiss that is sent from heaven, a kiss from up above , a kiss that is very special from someone that you love. So when your hearts are heavy and filled with tears and pain and no one can console you remember once again about the one you grieve for because you so sadly miss that the gentle breeze you took for granted was your Angel's kiss.

Phil was an inspiration to me when I started to ride motorcycles again. He would offer some good advice and we shared alot of good times together in Myrtle Beach with his good friend Woody. RIP buddy and watch over us as we continue to ride as you did.

Phil and I were shipmates, but not in the Navy. He was a salesman in the 1970's when I was GM at Checkered Flag. He would love to demonstrate and sell the hottest British sports cars we had. "This here is your TR-7, the shape of things to come" I encouraged PHil to study for his real estate license and he was always grateful for the opportunity to be more creative. Annabel and I send our most sincere condolences to the family.
