Phillip Leibowitz Obituary

Phillip Jacob ""Buddy"" Leibowitz, 73, passed away Dec. 15, 2007. Mr. Leibowitz was born June 24, 1934, to the late Harry and Sadie Coplon Leibowitz in Hopewell, Va. He graduated from Maury High School in 1952, and Medical College of Virginia Pharmacy School, Class of 1956. He served in the United States Air Force Medical Service Corps and retired as captain. He was the owner and operator of Colley Pharmacy from 1960 to 1975. He was pharmacy director for Farm Fresh Supermarkets and pharmacy director for Standard Drug in Richmond. Mr. Leibowitz was a member of Congregation Beth El and served on the board of directors. He volunteered at Jewish Family Services, the Virginia Beach Free Clinic and was a tutor for the Norfolk Public Schools. He was a member of the American and Virginia Pharmaceutical Associations. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Friedman Leibowitz; his three children, Roger Leibowitz and wife Kim of Richmond, Susan Leibowitz Rodgers and husband Sandy of Owings Mills, Md., and Ilene Leibowitz Lipton and Dr. Mark A. Lipton of Virginia Beach. Grandchildren include Robyn and Daniel Rodgers, Seth and Maya Lipton and Matthew and Evan Leibowitz. He is also survived by his brother, Saul Leibowitz and wife Louise of Pikesville, Md.; sister, Hannah L. Lipman and husband Tim of Chevy Chase, Md.; and sister-in-law, Iris Ruden. A funeral will be held today at 11:30 a.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Gordon Piltch. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Ryan for his kind and caring support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Davis Corner Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, Congregation Beth El or to a charity of one's choice.
